ACTORS WITH STAMMERING

ACTORS WITH STAMMERING

Swami Vivekananda, in his soul-stirring words, once said, “Stand up, be bold and strong, have faith in yourself. Know that you are the creator of your own destiny. All the strength you need is within you.”

Difficulties faced by Stammerers

DIFFICULTIES FACED BY PEOPLE WITH STAMMERING

Although the world is tending towards sensitization of differences but there is hardly any action to sensitize people about the discrimination and humiliation faced by stammerers. Partha Bagchi, an ex-stammerer and the Founder President of Stammering Cure Centre writes about his experience as a stammerer and the experiences of many more who face the same even now.

  • “A child was refused admission in a famous school in spite of having passed the admission test and getting a good rank. The reason – HE IS A STAMMERER!”
  • “While searching for a job after completing Engineering with very high marks from NIT, Nikhil cleared all written and aptitude tests perfectly, but failed miserably in the personal interview because of stammering. This happened 17 times! He went into severe depression and even tried committing suicide.”
  • “Pallavi was academically excellent, good-looking, sober, well-natured and talented, but was refused each time in marriage negotiations by the groom’s family. The only issue was that she stammered in the interactions with the groom’s family! Frustrated, she decided not to marry at all. Now she is passing a lonely solitary life and her family is heart-broken seeing her like that.”
  • “Due to his stammering, Pavan was ignored, humiliated and tortured by his family and thrown out of the house at the age of 14 years. Then he survived by living on the pavements and railway stations, clueless and helpless at his plight all because of STAMMERING!”
  • “Kavya was repeatedly beaten and abused by her husband and her in-laws. They thought that their prestige and reputation was brought down because of her stammering. One day, she was thrown out of the house with her few months old baby in hand. Nobody can imagine what Kavya had to go through because of her STAMMERING!”

These are just five glimpses of the difficulties that stammerers have to live through every day. You can only imagine what crores of people must be going through! They are not stories; they are real life incidents that changed the life of Nikhil, Pallavi, Pavan, Kavya. They are really helpless, frustrated, depressed, humiliated, dejected and have lost all hope, ambition and interest in life. In spite of having everything in life, because of disfluency of speech, their dreams always remain unfulfilled.

Partha Bagchi helps you to overcome your stammering no matter how old or how severe your stuttering is. Here are the top 10 tips by Partha Bagchi to help you overcome your stammering :

1. Believe in yourself that you too have the right and the ability to speak stammer-free.

2. Life is too short to be sad and worrying about your stammering. Try to be cheerful and lively, instead of thinking negatively and pessimistically.

3. Don’t make stammering your reality. If you think you will stammer then you are most likely to do so. Instead think that there is a chance that probably this time around things are going to be different. You may not face stammering at all.

4. Being relaxed and staying relaxed helps your body and mind to work in tandem and help you voice out your heart.

5. Don’t beat yourself up if you stammer a few times. Focus on the number of words that you spoke fluently, which when compared to the number of words you stammer in, is huge!!!

6. Breathe, for it is the essence of life and it is what is going to help you speak fluently. When your body is tensed, your breathing becomes restricted. Relax yourself in order to breathe fully and to keep your breath while speaking.

7. Keep your mind calm so that your mind is totally free and aware.

8. Rather than concentrating on your stammering, keep your focus on connecting with the person and feel the difference in your speaking experience instantly.

9. If the root of stammering lies in fear, then it is time to apply the age-old remedy for fear – FACING IT HEAD ON. Once you confront the feared object or activity, the fear vanishes like thin smoke.

AND LAST, BUT NOT THE LEAST

10. Think about all the things that can go right for you while speaking to someone instead of thinking about the worst possibilities that can only pose problems for you.

AND IN THE END….

“REMEMBER STAMMERING IS NOT A PROBLEM FOR YOU, THINKING TOO MUCH OVER IT OFTEN BECOMES THE PROBLEM!!!”
